Edward F. "Ed" Mervar, 91 of Sheboygan passed away on Thanksgiving evening, November 28, 2013, at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice Center surrounded by his loving family.
Ed was born in Sheboygan on October 30, 1922, a son to the late John and Margaret (Suharpetz) Mervar. He attended Ss. Cyril & Methodius Catholic School and graduated from Sheboygan Central High School. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and was assigned to the European Theater to build airfields greatly needed during the war.
Ed married the love of his life, Bernice G. Raabe on July 10, 1948, at the Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church; they celebrated 65 wonderful years together. Ed was a lifelong member of Ss. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church and the VFW Post 9156.
Ed was a painter by trade, beginning his career with H .C. Prange Company. He owned and operated Mervar?s Paint and Floor Covering along with his brother Bill, and continued his painting career with his brother and nephew John Mervar and John Mervar, Jr. until his retirement. Any time his family was involved in a construction or improvement project you could always count on Ed to be there to help with and manage the task.
Ed was active in a variety of sports. An accomplished bowler and golfer, Ed shot his first and only hole in one at the age of 76. In addition to being very lucky at "Bingo" Ed was a loyal Cubs and Packer fan.
Ed is survived by his loving wife, Bernice, three children, Phyllis (Terry) Felsinger, Barbara (Bill) Malanick and Michael Mervar all of Sheboygan; five grandchildren, Amy O?Connor, Debbie Felsinger, Andrew (Lora) Malanick, Melissa (Joel Schukow) Malanick, all of Sheboygan and Juan (Nikki) Macias of Minnesota, and eight great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Brianna and McKenna O?Connor, Zachory Felsinger, Austin and Aaron Edward Malanick, and Sofia and Mila Macias. He is further survived by a sister-in-law, Mae Mervar of Sheboygan and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by six sisters, two brothers and an infant brother and sister.
A Memorial Mass for Ed will be celebrated at 5 p.m. on Monday December 2nd at Ss. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church with Father Paul Fliss presiding. Family and friends may gather at the church, 822 New Jersey Avenue, on Monday from 3 p.m. until the time of Mass at 5 p.m. Military rites will be accorded by the VFW Post 9156.
Ed?s family would like to extend a special and sincere thank you to the Aurora Sheboygan Clinic and Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical staff, along with Dr. Bryan Schmidt. They also extend a grateful thank you to the kind and caring staff at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice Center for the expert care and comfort given to Ed in his final days.
