Alice Mae Radig, age 86 of Oshkosh peacefully joined her Heavenly Father Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at Aurora Medical Center in Oshkosh, surrounded by her loving family. She was born at home in Omro in the Town of Rushford on May 11, 1927 the daughter of Walter and Lydia (Wesner) Carpenter. Following a one-room school education, she graduated at the top of her Omro High School class. She married her wartime sweetheart Donald L. Radig on December 9, 1944, their union lasting 69 wonderful years.
She worked at Bancroft Dairy in Madison, Oshkosh B'Gosh overall factory, 20 years at the Roxy Supper Club as head cook, and 22 years as office manager at the Oshkosh Animal Hospital. In retirement Alice enjoyed needlework, attending auctions, refinishing furniture, vegetable and flower gardening, traveling, golfing, and joyfully spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was renowned for her gifts of cooking and baking, but especially for her homemade pies!
A selfless individual, she was beloved by all for her generous spirit of giving so much to so many.
Survived by her loving husband, Don, all of her children, Susan (Robert) Buckner, Bettye (William) Nimmer, Sally (Richard) Mackie, Thomas (Grace Ziegenhagen) and Janice (Michael) Anderson; 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and many relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by her parents and seven siblings: Viola Carpenter, Lewis (Adeline) Carpenter, Robert (Virginia) Carpenter, Marie (Donald) Hoeft, Esther (Gilbert) Nagel, Roy (Edith) Carpenter, and Hazel Carpenter.
She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church Oshkosh. Visitation will be held at the church (240 W 9th Ave - Oshkosh), on Sunday, September 22, from noon until funeral services at 2:00 p.m., followed by a luncheon and time for sharing memories of Alice. Private internment services will be held Monday at Lake View Mausoleum.
