John Paul Sever
John Paul Sever, 62, of 741 Main Street, Vandling, died Friday, December 26 at St. Joseph?s Hospital after a lengthy illness with cancer. He and his wife, the former Clara Menart, RN observed their 36th wedding anniversary in August.
Born in Forest Ciy, son of the late Anton and Mary O?Peka Sever, he was employed by The Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company for 32 years prior to his retirement. He was a graduate of Forest City High School class of 1941 and worked at the Forest City News during his high school years. He attended Western Maryland College. He served with the US Army during World War II with the 100th Century division in France and Germany. He was a member of the Pennsylvania National Guard and served at Camp Atterbury, IN in 1950 and the Korean campaign when his unit was federalized. He was also a member of St. Joseph?s Church, Forest City, and a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5505.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Nancy Muniz, Evanston, WY; four sons, Robert and Carl, both of Stroudsburg, Paul, Boise, ID and Luke, Linden, NJ; a grandson, Joshua Sever; four sisters, Josephine Sever, Forest City, Ms. Ann Sever, Harrisburg, Mrs. Celia Lisowski, Largo, FL; Mrs Veronica Scepita, Forest City; two brothers, Francis Sever, Browndale and Joseph Sever, Carbondale; nieces and nephews.
A son, John, died in 1957.
The funeral was Monday from McGranaghan-Wilcznski Funeral Home, Forest City, with Mass of Christian Burial by the Rev. Casimir Sulicki in St. Joseph?s Church, Forest City. Interment, St. Joseph?;s Cemetery.
Military rites were conducted by Charles and Martin Skubic Post 524 American Legion and by VFW Post 5505, both under the direction of Edmund Urbas.
Pallbearers: Anthony, Joseph, John and Michael Sever, James Daniels and Joseph Baron.
