- In doing research on my family tree, I came across a few items that may be of interest to you. My great-great aunt was married to and allegedly killed by Charles F. Vail. As shown in your family tree, Charles was first married to Frances Gamache (born 11/1/1863; married to CFV on August 8, 1882; CFV deserted Fannie on November 29, and divorce was decreed on June 2, 1885).
Charles and Fannie's daughter, Alice, died in Phoenix, Arizona on June 20, 1895 of an intestinal abscess. She was 14 at the time of her death.
In the June 19, 1895 edition of the St Louis Dispatch, it was reported that Alice had won a settlement in the accidental death of her father (fault in the elevator at the construction site). In this article, it mentions the suit was bought by Mrs. Fannie Nixon, her mother.
Your tree shows Fannie married Samuel Champaigne. I'm wondering if you have any info on this marriage and or her marriage to Mr. Nixon. Or any information on how and or why she moved to Arizona.
Also, Fannie Nixon then married J.M. Like in Phoenix, Arizona on September 30, 1997.
In attempting to answer a question for my aunt about the outcome of the trial of Charles F Vail for the murder of my great-great-aunt, Mary Frances (Fannie) Vail, I became engrossed in uncovering all facts I can about Charles F Vail.
Frances Gamache Vail is an interesting character in the total story since she was able to get herself disentangled from CFV. According to scuttlebutt, CFV tried to poison Fannie Gamache Vail. So, any info you have would be helpful.
Thank you,
